Our Mission Is...

To improve the educational opportunities of the students we serve who do not possess a degree of proficiency in reading, writing, math or communicational skills that will enable them to adapt technological changes, compete in the workforce and participate in our democratic process.

About Adult Education

An individual must be sixteen years old or older to enroll in adult education. Admission to the program will be either GED preparation or basic skills upgrading. All applicants to the program are assessed with the Test of Adult Basic Education (TABE) prior to program entry. Classes for both GED preparation and basic skills improvement are contingent upon TABE scores. There is no charge for classes or assessment. Books are available for student use while in class. Classes are offered during the day, the evening, and online.

Testing for the GED, General Education Development Diploma is scheduled monthly at Swainsboro Tech, and quarterly in the outlying county service area. A person must be 18 years old or older and out of high school to take the GED exam. A valid driver’s license is required for identification. The cost, as of July 1, 2007, is $95 for the complete exam (all 5 sections) or $19 per section.

Sixteen, seventeen and eighteen-year-olds may apply for special needs testing and be approved by the Office of Adult Education/GED Testing. For information call Nancy Bailes at (478) 289-2248.
